Project Money Pit

This post may seem off topic however rest assured that it is directly related to this site.  I recently purchased a Jeep so that I could get out and explore some of the places that aren’t real accessible unless you are up to walking some very rough terrain.  Some of the real nice places here in southern Kentucky are very hard to get to and requires an ATV of some sort or the desire to hike for miles, being a person that would rather drive as close as possible especially since the weather is getting warmer than walk I decided to purchase a Jeep.  I would have to say it is keeping me busy for sure.  I have had it out a couple of times and must say this is the way to go.  The first trip we made with the Jeep was a trip out three mile road in an attempt to get to the Rockcastle River out on Hwy 192 between Somerset and London.  This road is called three mile road because its three miles off of 192 back to the river.  Now three miles doesn’t seem far, however this isn’t your typical three mile drive to the local grocery store.  This road winds back on top of ridge with drop-offs on each side and requires you to navigate some rough terrain.  The road takes you across creeks, down rock banks and through the woods.  The day we went there were other vehicles parked at the top of the road I assume people had trailed their trucks out there instead of driving them to the site.  We drove a mile and a half or so back down the trail attempting to get to where we wanted to go maneuvering around the mud bogs that we could and going through the ones that we had to.  We eventually came to really bad looking place that was about 100 feet long or so and winded around the bend.  I was afraid to attempt this since I didn’t have a winch or another vehicle to pull me out and I really didn’t feel like walking all that way to get back out and even if I had I have no idea how I would have gotten the Jeep unstuck.  Since this time I have been working on the Jeep and getting it in better shape for future endeavors.  I refer to this Jeep as “Project Money Pit”.    Seems there is always something to do or something else you want to try.  I guess I am like a kid and this takes me back to my Tonka Toy days, growing old is a requirement however growing up is purely optional.  I have plans to go back out to the three mile road after a few upgrades to the Jeep or if I can catch someone else going back there.  Trust me I have saw some pictures of this site and it’s definitely on my list of places to explore.  Hopefully my next trip I will make it to the river and will have some pictures to post.
